Resignation of Chief Medical Officer

On April 27, 2023, Lisa Rojkjaer M.D. informed Viracta Therapeutics, Inc. (the “Company”) that she was resigning from her position as Chief Medical Officer of the Company, effective on May 5, 2023, to pursue other opportunities. Dr. Rojkjaer’s resignation is voluntary and is not the result of any disagreement with the Company related to its operations, policies, or practices. The Company thanks Dr. Rojkjaer for her contributions to the Company.

On May 2, 2023 the Company issued a press release announcing the resignation of Lisa Rojkjaer M.D. from her position as Chief Medical Officer. A copy of that press release is furnished herewith as Exhibit 99.1.

Viracta Therapeutics Announces Departure of Chief Medical Officer

San Diego, May 2, 2023 – Viracta Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VIRX), a precision oncology company focused on the treatment and prevention of virus-associated cancers that impact patients worldwide, today announced that Chief Medical Officer, Lisa Rojkjaer, M.D., will be leaving the company to pursue another opportunity, effective May 5, 2023. Donald Strickland, M.D., Viracta’s Vice President, Clinical Development and Medical Director, and Yisrael Katz, M.D., Senior Medical Director, will continue to oversee Viracta’s pivotal NAVAL-1 trial and solid tumor clinical program, respectively.
