Know the Facts: AT&T’s WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc creating a standalone company

To: AT&T Business Solutions Sales Associates

What did AT&T Announce?

On March 17, 2021, AT&T announced that WarnerMedia is being combined with Discovery’s leading nonfiction, international and sports businesses to create a standalone global entertainment company. We believe this will establish a new, independent company with leading direct-to-consumer streaming services for global customers in a uniquely value-added way. Let’s take a few moments to explain the decision and reinforce the strong position this puts us – AT&T and AT&T Business – in for the future.

What do you need to know?

First and foremost, the announcement doesn’t change anything about AT&T’s commitment to and operational focus on our customers. In fact, we believe it enables us more opportunity to serve our customers both consumer and businesses as well as our shareholders.

We believe the better strategy path forward is to separate these businesses into 2 independent companies – one broadband connectivity and the other media. We expect doing this will accelerate growth in our business and WarnerMedia’s business.

After the anticipated completion of the deal by mid-2022, AT&T will be tightly focused and better positioned to capitalize on the growing long-term demand for connectivity services. We plan to continue our investment in our wireless network, expecting to reach 200 million people with 5G C-band spectrum by the end of 2023. Furthermore, we intend to more than double our current Fiber footprint by the end of 2025, expecting to reach 30 million customer locations. Our goal is to offer the best broadband solutions in the market fueled by wireless and fiber technologies. This will broaden our reach and extend our ability to directly provide our customers with our flagship broadband services.

Keep doing what you’re doing – serving and taking care of our AT&T Business customers.
